For a home improvement project as important as a bathroom remodel, you shouldn’t entrust the job to just anyone. It’s important to find a company that you can trust, one that has your best interest in mind. It can be hard to find a company like that unless they introduce themselves. That’s why we’d like to tell you more about who we are: Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh.
We had the chance to introduce ourselves during the 2021 Pittsburgh Kitchen and Bath Show which was a live, virtual event that we hosted with Cabinet World of PA. Together, we took a deep dive into the kitchen and bath remodel process, styles, trends, and more.
During one of these informative segments, team members Mike Meili and Jim Taddeo told our viewers about Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh – who we are, what we do, and how we do it. To watch the full segment, head over to our Facebook page where you can find recordings of all our shows. And while you’re there, be sure to like our page for updates on upcoming events. You won’t want to miss our next show, because we answer live questions from our viewers!
Keep reading for a full recap of Mike and Jim’s discussion. Below, we’re going to breakdown the show segment: Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh – Who We Are.
Who We Are – Origins
Bath Fitter began as an idea between three brothers: Brian, Wayne, and Glenn Cotton. These three saw the bathroom demolition techniques that were common during the 1980s and decided to find a more efficient method of remodeling. Putting their minds together, the trio brainstormed and developed an idea that would allow for quicker installation, increased product lifetime, and easier maintenance for the customer.
This idea birthed the professional Bath Fitter product.
Our product is a customized bathtub or shower, made out of acrylic with a one-piece, seamless wall. The materials we use, and the customizable nature of our product combine to become something remarkable. A new bathtub or shower from Bath Fitter is amazingly easy to clean and maintain.
Our Bath Fitter products are also backed by a lifetime warranty, so that you can enjoy your new bathroom with peace of mind. Jim explained just what “lifetime product” means: for the time our product is in your life, we’ve got it covered. He elaborated:
When we put our system in, whether it be a shower – whether it be a tub or a tub-to-shower conversion – our warranties are for as long as you own your home… We guarantee the acrylic product[s] for as long as you own your home… Anything happens, you call us, and we take care of it. And there’s never a service charge.
This commitment to serve our customers stems from the heart behind our company. A top priority of Bath Fitter is to provide homeowners with a product they’ll love. The Bath Fitter product is a crowd-pleaser from the start, of course, but we’ve also learned from experience how to satisfy your needs.
Bath Fitter nationwide has seen over 35 years of business, and we here in Pittsburgh have seen over 20. We’ve been succeeding in the remodeling industry for a while now, and we’ve learned enough on the way to give you the bathroom remodel you want.
Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh begins
Two college friends, Frank Witkowski and Sam Lucci began the Pittsburgh branch of Bath Fitter in 1997. They wanted to make bathroom remodels less intrusive and more time efficient. They knew they could accomplish their goal through acrylic, one-piece-wall bathtubs and showers.
The Pittsburgh branch got down to business quickly. Since 1997, we’ve completed over 40,000 installations in the counties of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington, Westmoreland, Lawrence, and Mercer. Those installations represent our commitment to offering the Pittsburgh area a quality product at a great price.
Our commitment has expanded over the years, in that we now provide tub-to-shower conversions and DIY assistance. The heart behind our work remains the same, though: whether we’re installing, converting, or assisting, we always there to help homeowners have their dream bathroom.
It’s always us who will make the trip there – never someone who isn’t a professional Bath Fitter employee.
“We don’t want to use subcontractors,” said Jim during the show. He explained:
I don’t want somebody that’s going to be putting a roof on one day, a deck on another day and then thinking they can come and do your bathroom. This is all [our employees] do, so they get better and better and better at it for you.
You can trust the Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh team members who are working in your home, because they have the know-how and expertise to complete your project well. We train each of our employees to do the careful work of bathroom remodeling so that you receive a job well done. If you do find something that doesn’t meet your home improvement standards, though, rest assured we’ll get it right for you.
Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh began with a heart for making homeowners happy, and satisfying you is still our goal today.
The Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh And You
Working with us, you’ll get to see our character personally, like more than 40,000 homeowners in the Pittsburgh area already have. One of the most important things that has stayed the same across each one of those installations is who we are. Even though every project has been a little different, we meet each challenge with the same reliable company character.
Jim explained how each bathroom remodel will look a little bit different for each job. He noted:
Well, every installation is different. For instance, if you have a fiberglass unit, we’re going to take that all out. And usually behind the fiberglass unit you’re not going to have any backing. What I mean by backing is drywall/plaster behind there. It’s usually just on the studs. We’re going to put new drywall back up – water resistant drywall – bring everything to standard before we do any work and then begin our work.
The uniqueness of a given bathroom remodel calls for an equally unique solution. Being totally customizable, the Bath Fitter product perfectly completes any bathroom.
A Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh story
Not only does the individuality of every bathroom remodel make the Bath Fitter product ideal for the job, but it also makes our work here in Pittsburgh very interesting. Each project is like a story with its own narrative, arch, and meaning for the homeowner.
An especially memorable job for Jim was the remodel which Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh did in his own home – before he even became a Bath Fitter employee!
Jim talked about that project during The 2021 Pittsburgh Kitchen and Bath show. He had hired Bath Fitter to make remodel his bathroom after some younger Jim’s had accidently broken a soap dish off the wall. Here’s the story, in Jim’s own words:
I’m in the kitchen cooking, and I hear laughter. I go into the bathroom, and [my kids] got the soap dish in their hand. “Hey, Dad!”
Jimlooked at the damage caused by the broken-off soap dish and decided to repair it DIY style. He cut around where the soap dish had resided on the wall and installed a window in its place. The quick fix “looked nice,” but the trouble was that the seal around the window began to gather mold and mildew:
In about six months, [it] started to mold and mildew on me (which you don’t get with an acrylic system). So, I ripped that down. I actually did that system three times in one year. I saw a Bath Fitter truck going down the road [and] wrote the number down. They came out to my house… They did an excellent job, excellent job… So, years later, I left some opportunities that I had, was looking for some new opportunities… and I’ve been here since then.
Jim’s first experience with Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh is not too far off from the experience of many of our customers. Whether their current bathtub or shower is falling into disrepair, or the homeowners simply want to achieve a new look, our team members do an excellent job worthy of “raving reviews.”
Our Bath Fitter Team Members Are Dedicated
At the end of his story, Jim concluded with a statement he has found to be true from his experience as a customer and a team
member.
“They take care of you like [you’re] the only customer that [they] have,” he asserted, “and I appreciate that. I appreciate the service they do… even after the sale.”
Our employees are dedicated to their work in the Pittsburgh area. For them, said Jim, working for Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh isn’t just a job, it’s a service to our customers and our customers’ families.
We understand the impact that a bathroom remodel can have in your day to day life. The bathroom is one of the first places you go in the morning and one of the last you visit at night, and the quality of its appliances, walls, and furniture can make a real difference in your mood.
So we take our work seriously, understanding its importance to you as the homeowner.

Our system Is Hassle-Free
If you take a look at our ideas book, you’ll notice the cleanliness of each bathroom. At Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh, we’re careful to leave your home as clean as it was when we found it. This is possible, in part, thanks to the nature of our product.
The Bath Fitter system enables us to install your new bathtub or shower in a day without doing any messy demolition.
Beyond that, our team members are careful to keep your home clean from the moment they enter until the moment they leave. Jim described some of the measures our Bath Fitter professionals take during a job during the 2021 Pittsburgh Kitchen and Bath Show.
First, we place drop cloths on the floor. This makes a safe path for us to reach your bathroom without tracking in dirt.
Next, we take care of any ruined materials that we find as part of the installation or conversion. This would include water-rotted areas, etc.
And lastly, we always clean up after ourselves.
“You won’t even know that they were there,” said Jim, speaking for our team of professionals. With Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh, you get the benefits of a bathroom remodel without the hassle of a big mess.
Our priority Is You
Working with a remodeling company shouldn’t be a hassle for you. At Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh, we understand we should be here for you – not vice versa. That’s why we are committed to meeting your needs in every way we can.
One of the ways we meet your needs is by working within your time constraints. When someone is interested in working with Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh, they can schedule an evaluation through a phone call or through our online form. We’ll talk about your goals and the job itself, then set up an appointment.
The time of this appointment depends on the homeowner. If you’re available in the evening, that’s when we’ll be there. If you’re available in the morning, we’ll visit you then.
“I’ve been out early in the morning,” said Jim, “I’ve been out late at night. We’re here for you. We accommodate your schedule.
“And we’ll even come out on the weekend,” added another of our team members, Mike, “So, if that’s your only free day… We’ll come out on a Saturday.”
Once we’ve arrived at your home, we’ll discuss important project details with you. We’ll cover things related to your bathroom remodel, including financial matters and aesthetic choices.
A Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh evaluation
Part of our evaluation includes discussing the price of your upcoming bathroom remodel. We’re always upfront and honest with homeowners about this. We’re not going to waste your time or energy obscuring the cost of an installation or tub-to-shower conversion. Instead, said Jim:
Whether you want a tub in a wall, a tub-to-shower [conversion], or a shower, we evaluate all that [and] we’ll give you a price right there. And that price is the price… We don’t pressure you… We don’t play those games… The price is the price for you and everything that you want is laid out for you right there.
We won’t pressure you into buying something you don’t actually want. We’re here to show you the options that are available to you when you work with Bath Fitter of Pittsburgh.
Each homeowner’s taste is unique, and we think that should be reflected in the house itself. That’s possible with our different color and texture options. We always use the best of acrylic materials, but we offer a variety of stylistic choices for your new bathtub or shower. If your bathroom’s color scheme matches best with a marble look, we can accomplish this for you. Bath Fitter tubs come in many shades and styles like white or pearl colored. We can (and always do) make your system custom to you. That’s what we do, because that’s who we are.
